Research Focus

Discover the worldwide unique research consortium of neuroscience and cognitive science located in the heart of Germany!
Welcome to our Research Focus on neuroscience and cognition! We are happy to give you an outlook on our excellent research consortium. The consortium combines two successful research traditions in a close cooperation between two excellent universities in Germany: Ruhr Universität Bochum (RUB) and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE).

Explore our unique hub for research on neuroscience and cognition with its’ six modules: Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms, Microcircuitry of Cognition, Cognition and Affect, Computational Neuroscience, Philosophy of Mind, and Translational and Clinical Research.

Get to know the involved researchers from various fields such as psychology, medicine, theoretical neuroscience, philosophy, and biology. Take a look at their profiles and research foci to connect with experts from your field.

Find out more about our excellent research infrastructure for neuroscience including various laboratories with state-of-the-art technical equipment as well as our brand new research building “THINK” (Center for Theoretical and Integrative Euro- and Cognitive Science).

Take a look at our network of international renowned partners such as Rutgers University, Radboud University and Queensland Brain Institute.

You can take part in our exclusive online-event in January 2022 and you can apply for travel grants to explore our research consortium on-site and become part of our network.

Both RUB and UDE fostered the successful and synergetic development of the neurosciences and cognitive sciences in an expanding cooperation. In its current form, there is no nationally competing location with a similar breadth and depth in this research area.
